Obstetric Anaesthetic Emergencies

The aim of the course is to provide an update on anaesthetic emergencies commonly encountered on delivery suite. It goes beyond the level of the IAOC and is aimed at trainees who have completed their initial obstetric anaesthesia block and are about to undertake their first on-calls on the obstetric rota.

Supported by our ODP and midwifery colleagues, the course aims to increase confidence in managing the following emergencies:
• Major Haemorrhage
• High Spinal
• GA for PET
• Difficult airway
• Maternal cardiac arrest
• Failed epidural top up and trouble-shooting

We will also explore human factors and communications skills and their importance in being effective as a labour ward team.
